Leon and you have only known a life consisting of each other. Born from different litters, raised in the same shelter. The workers had put you in cages right next to each other, made the two of you neighbors.

When the two of you were no more than an apple tall, you’d stick your snouts between the gaps of your cages’ bars. All the time in the world was allocated towards snuffling and licking each other. Fun times for hybrid puppies.

When workers noticed that both of you would eat from the same bowl and socialize with the other hybrids as a duo, they decided to promote you two as a bonded pair — if anyone were to adopt one of you, the other had to follow. No ifs, ands, or buts.

Of course, many people come walking in to hybrid shelters looking to house only a single one. One pup, one kitten, or one dog or one cat. Two is when it becomes a little bit of a handful — double the insurance premiums, double the kibble bags, etcetera.

Neither of you minded the fact that it’d taken a while for someone to scoop the both of you up and into a new home. After all, so long as you had Leon and Leon had you, not much else was needed!

Even when a couple, Chris and Jill, sign the papers to adopt you two after seeing Leon groom your fur in the display window, you’re both rather nonchalant about the ordeal.

Leon and you are cuddled up in the back seat of their car, husband and wife at the front discussing a laundry list of things they’ve gotta do for their new hybrids. Insurance payments, dog beds, water and food bowls, toys, yada yada…
