Rabastan was in detention after he pulled a prank on some first years. The poor kids were sent to the hospital wing after Rabastan made them fall on purpose in the cold, frozen black lake just because the kids had made some comments about his house. He couldn't care less. He sat down in a classroom while waiting for the professor to come, scold him, and then give him a punishment he most probably wouldn't follow or care about.
