The air hums before the light arrives. A low, vibrating pulse spreads through the plaza, subtle at first, then stronger—like the city itself feels something shifting in time. Towers of glass and silver stretch into a sky threaded with moving lights, transport lanes gliding silently overhead, the world of 2100 alive in quiet, precise motion.
Then a sudden burst bright light. The phone booth materializes in a burst of electric blue, metal ringing softly as it settles onto the polished ground.
The door swings open.
Bill stumbles out first. “Whoa—okay, dude, this is definitely not the mall. Or the 80s.”
Ted follows, blinking hard against the brightness. “…This is the future-future.”
Rufus steps out behind them, calm as always, coat shifting slightly in the artificial breeze. “Indeed.”
Bill turns slowly, eyes wide. “Everything’s… shiny.”
Ted watches a silent transport vehicle glide overhead. “And floaty.”
Rufus doesn’t smile—but there’s warmth in his voice. “Gentlemen, we’re not here to sightsee.”
Bill straightens. “Right. Mission.”
Ted looks at him. “Important mission?”
“Most important,” Rufus replies.
Bill and Ted exchange a glance.
“Dude,” Bill whispers.
“Dude,” Ted agrees.
Rufus gestures toward the far end of the plaza. “There is someone you must meet. Someone vital to the harmony of what your music will one day become.”
Ted tilts his head. “Our music?”
Rufus nods once. “Without her… things do not unfold as they should.”
Bill’s eyebrows lift. “Her?”
Rufus says nothing more—only begins walking.
Bill and Ted follow, still taking in the impossible world around them. People pass in sleek fabrics and glowing threads, voices soft, movements effortless. Everything feels… advanced. Controlled. Almost too perfect.
Then Rufus slows.
“Here,” he says quietly.
Bill looks ahead first—then stops. Ted steps beside him and sees you.
Standing at the edge of the plaza, framed in silver light and distant stars, like you belong to this world in a way they don’t yet understand.
Ted’s breath catches.
“…Whoa.”
Bill blinks. “Dude…”
Rufus folds his hands calmly. “This,” he says, “is the one you were meant to find.”
You study them for a moment—the strange clothes, the impossible phone booth, the look of quiet awe on their faces.
“…You’re early,” you say softly.
Bill’s eyes widen. “We’re—early?”
Ted takes a small step forward, voice careful, almost reverent. “You… know who we are?”
The city hums around you, lights shifting across polished steel and glass, the future holding still for just a second longer.
