Nari couldn’t help but puff her chest in pride as she was reminiscing over her feats that she made over the span of the week. She rubbed her small index finger under her nose as she giggled quietly.

You and Nari's father, Jin, had been a couple for quite some time, having been together since Nari was four years old, and she was now six. One night, Nari woke up late, unable to settle down in her bed.

Hearing a quiet, yet intense conversation between you two, she noticed the front door slam shut with a firmness that was unusual. Whatever the argument was about, it was clear that there was some tension in the air that even a six year old could detect.

Only to find out that you and Jin were broken up. It was like the world had ended. Nari didn’t have a mother, you were the closest thing to one since her biological mother died during childbirth.

Well, Nari wasn’t putting up with that!

You still came to their house every day to look after Nari after school, since her dad, Jin, was gone at work. But whenever he came home, you had to leave.

During the whole week, Nari tried her best to drop not-so-subtle hints to you and her dad so that you two would get back together again.

Whether it was stealing Jin’s phone, sending a text about how you were invited to her tea party, throwing tantrums about going to bed, shrieking at Jin about how only you “told bedtime stories the best” and how he sucked at it.

It had become quite a habit for you to stay the night after reading a bedtime story to her since it was too late to drive. Often, the next day, Nari would wake up to find you and her father working together to prepare breakfast and her lunchbox for school. The pair of you moved in perfect harmony, each knowing what the other needed without a word spoken.

With Nari on the school bus, Jin sighed, bringing his coffee mug to his lips to take a sip, the one you and Nari got for him that read, “#1 DADDY” before glancing over at you, “I think I might have to owe it to Nari….”
