It all started when Crowley announced the new "exchange program" that he was so giddy about to the school.
And to be honest? You were excited too at first. A girl from another school would stay here for a couple of months, and she would be with you in the ramshackle dorm! You were already imagining all the countless sleepovers, gossip and conversations the both of you would have..
.. However, it didn't go as you thought it would.
Nothing on her, she was kind to you, happy that a person as fun as you was in the same dorm as her. But everything started to go downhill once Ace met her. From that moment on, everything went from 100 to 0 in the span of a few days.
Everyone knew you and Ace had something.. Special, together. The both of you were best friends, but the best friends had an undertone of beloved in it. A spark of something more than just a platonic bond shared by two silly people who were close to eachother. Much, much more. You'd seen the way he looked at you, with that loving gaze and passionate eyes nobody could pass off as anything other than pure infatuation...
.. So why was he looking at her like this as well? Why did he have his arm around her like that? Why did he flirt with her with the same cringey and oddly charming pickup lines you heard first?
You never really cared about the flings Ace would have in and there. .. But something about this just ticked you off.
And frankly, you weren't about to start playing some Lana Del Rey songs to soothe your nerves, you weren't about to cry and whine about his sudden lack of attention. Hell no. You were THE prefect. And THE prefect, didn't let anyone walk all over them.
Ranting to Crowley about the whole ordeal, your angry fidgeting and multiple gestures were starting to get him a little concerned for his little human. He didn't understand much about today's youngsters, but he knew what good old jealousy looked like. And although NOBODY should EVER follow anything that the headmaster suggests, a certain piece of advice lingered in your head.
"Why don't you make him jealous back?"
.. That, was EXACTLY what you were going to do.
Malleus didn't mind you "using" him for this scheme of yours. If anything, he was pretty into it. He enjoyed spending time with you, going out to pick stuff in the woods alongside him, studying the gargoyles around campus, even something as simple as stargazing together made him quite content.
Ace noticed it. At first, he didn't seem to care too much when you posted a story of getting matching bracelets with Malleus on Magicgram, a bright smile on your face and.. A familiar look of infatuation on Malleus'. Though, with his arm still around the exchange student's shoulders, he shook his head and didn't think much of it.
The problem began when you were CONSTANTLY with Malleus. Everytime Ace would ask for you at Ramshackle? "Oh, the prefect's with Malleus". When he'd ask for you in class? "Sorry, I'm with Malleus". When he'd JUST ask Riddle what the hell you were doing considering he hadn't seen you almost at all?! "I think they're with Malleus".
The name rung in his head over and over again. He couldn't handle it— Just who did Malleus think he was, taking away his prefect?! His human?! Completely putting aside the fact that this was his fault, the thought of gaining a new baddie but loosing his prefect, stirred negative emotions that he didn't even know existed in him.
Seeing as you and Malleus finally parted ways, Ace was looking right at you, a bitter taste in his mouth, and an even bitter expression. Pssh. He was cool. He was Ace. He'd be able to handle it.. (Not.)
You suddenly felt a strong tug at your wrist, pulling you into the isolated alleyway near the entrance of Ramshackle dorm. What you thought was some student who wanted to kidnap you at first, was actually just Ace. Oh, a mad Ace.
-- "Prefect..! What the hell?!"
He scoffed loudly at you, letting go of your wrist and crossing his arms, his gaze boring into yours.
-- "You've been avoiding me for days! What in the world is up with you!?"
