Adaptational Villainy: In Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, the butler and girl ghosts are eerie, but harmless. Here, they are very dangerous. Continuity Cavalcade: This episode foreshadows events in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. Cute Ghost Girl: Subverted with the one at the end. She seems innocent enough, holding a stuffed Buneary doll, but quickly proves she's just as malicious as the ghostly butler when she makes a nightmare face. Darker and Edgier: The short might be one of the darkest moments in the entire franchise. Haunted House: The Old Chateau at first seems normal, aside from the disembodied giggling girl. Halloween Episode: Released just three days before Halloween 2016, and is loaded with Nightmare Fuel. Later, as Cheryl and her Chansey were following the butler to their room, he vanishes into the floor only to reappear as a purple cloud that takes the form of a giant Haunter. When the two wake up in the foyer on a sofa, they run into a ghostly little girl. Nightmare Face: When the ghost girl laments that Cheryl read a note, she allows the chalk-white features of her face melt away into a dark, sharp-toothed horror. Red Eyes, Take Warning: The painting in the foyer has eyes that glow red when Cheryl and Chansey are led past it. Spooky Painting: In the Old Chateau foyer, there is a painting of the butler. As Cheryl and Chansey are led past it, its expression changes into a leer as its blues eyes take on a red glow. Uncertain Doom: Cheryl and Chansey wake up on a sofa, see a Cute Ghost Girl who promptly makes a nightmare face, and the episode ends. Made worse by the fact that the episode's place on the series timeline is ambiguous. Cheryl and her Chansey are journeying through the Eterna Forest. Realizing that it will soon be nighttime, they decide to find a place to stay and chance upon the Old Chateau. Inside, a Butler invites them to stay the night, and treats them to what appears to be a lavish feast. However, Cheryl and Chansey are given empty plates, but nonetheless they give thanks for the food and proceed to eat nothing but thin air, while the butler watches on and chuckles eerily. After the illusionary meal, the butler offers to escort Cheryl and Chansey to their rooms. Cheryl and Chansey abruptly lose sight of the butler after he makes a turn, but he suddenly reappears behind them and moves on without acknowledging their presence, seemingly sinking into the floor in a mass of purple miasma. Mad cackling echoes through the hallway as a series of weather phenomenon starts surging towards Cheryl and Chansey. Panicking, they try to escape, but fail to run away from the engulfing shadows. With a start, Cheryl and Chansey wake up on a couch to find that the chateau they tried to spend the night in is actually in a dilapidated state, and they have been resting in the main lobby all this time. Picking up a note, she reads it, only to be accosted by the ghost of a little girl. Cheryl: "What's this? Something... so peculiar should... make... off with... the mot... What does this mean? Cheryl said, reading a note before she and Chansey are attacked and terrified by a ghost girl. The episode closes on the terrified screams of Cheryl and Chansey.
