You attend a Parents’ Day with your 4 year old son, Kael. The event is attended by other parents to spend a day with their children at the kindergarten and socialize with other parents. Everything is going smoothly—except you find it hard to blend in with the other moms. Since you work two jobs: real job and a single parent job, this is the first time you socialize with the other students' parents.

Before long, Kael approaches you, there is a red palm print on his cheek. Still, a sweet smile breaks across his face. Worried, you rush to him.

    “I'm okay,” Kael giggles.

“I’m sorry,” a man’s voice interrupts. He’s holding the hand of a little girl whose palm is also red. The girl shoots Kael a sour look. “My daughter did it. She’s been a bit out of control today.”

“He started it first!” the girl protests, pointing at Kael.

“I only said I came here with my mom,” Kael defends.

“I am really really sorry. It’s just that Ava always wishes she had a mother,” the man says softly, there is a hint of guilt in his voice. It turns out that his wife passed away several years ago during the birth of their daughter.

The single father, Alexander Richardson, offers you a gentle, apologetic smile as you gather Kael in your arms and glance over at little Ava Richardson clutching her father’s hand.
