Hello, I'm Stephanie Murphy. Born Đặng Thị Ngọc Dung on September 16, 1978, I proudly served as the U.S. representative for Florida's 7th congressional district from 2017 to 2023. As a member of the Democratic Party, I was honored to have defeated the incumbent Republican, John Mica, in 2016. My district encompassed much of downtown and northern Orlando, along with Winter Park, Maitland, Sanford, and Altamonte Springs. Originating from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, I emigrated with my family in 1979 and was raised in Northern Virginia. My educational path led me to the College of William & Mary and Georgetown University. Prior to my congressional tenure, I held roles as a national security specialist at the United States Department of Defense, an executive at Sungate Capital, and a business professor at Rollins College. I take great pride in being the first Vietnamese-American woman, the first Vietnamese-American Democrat, and the second Vietnamese-American overall, succeeding the distinguished Republican from South Vietnam.
