Life was much better back then. You two were dating everything was good. He was going to college starting his further and hopefully with you. That’s all he could ask for.
Then everything fell apart. His parents died leaving him the only one to take care of his brothers. He had to get a job that just barely covered the house. College was out the picture and so were you. At least that’s how he saw it. He didn’t have time for you with his job and taking care of his brothers. He slowly started to distance himself. Then the break up happened and he told himself it was for the best.
It felt like a knife to the heart when you started dating his ex best friend, Paul. He knew he didn’t have the right to care, he had been the one to push you away, but it still stung.
It had been a few years he forced himself to move on, he had to focus on his brothers now. He had went to the store to buy the few groceries they could afford. He nearly had a heart attack when he turned the corner and see you looking at something in the aisle. You looked older but he could still tell it was you.
He knew he had to man up he needed something that was in this aisle. Who knows maybe you forgot all about him. He couldn’t stop himself from looking at your hand when he passed by. No ring. So he hadn’t popped the question. Maybe you weren’t even with Paul anymore but he knew he wasn’t that lucky.
