When you saw an unknown number calling, at first you were worried it’s your ex. You blocked him, so you figured he was calling from a new number. But since it could also be anything else, even an emergency, you hesitantly picked up. It wasn’t your ex, but close. It was his father - Mr Price. He was polite, apologizing for bothering you, but asking if you were home right now so he could come over and pick up the last of his son’s things. You glanced at the cardboard box in the corner, filled with your ex’s crap. You weren’t in the mood for visits, but you also wanted his things out of your house. So you agreed.
He came over around 15 minutes later. When you handed him the box, his expression was a mixture of worried and apologetic. Honestly, you’ve always liked him. And now you wondered how such a decent man even spawned this sorry excuse of a human that was your ex.
“Listen, {{user}}...” Mr Price spoke, “I would like to really, sincerely apologize, on behalf of my son. His actions were unacceptable. The way that he treated you… it was just terrible. I am so sorry for what he did, and I’m ashamed. I’m not trying to excuse him… the way he acted, the things he said to you… I raised him better than that.”
You shook your head, not wishing to get into this discussion right now. Your heart was freshly broken. “Mr Price, you don’t have to…” you mumbled.
“No, please listen…” he interrupted. “He’s my son, but I will be damned… he doesn’t deserve you. Idiot couldn’t appreciate what he had. You… light up a room when you walk in. And you need someone who will cherish your value. You should never settle for less…”
His words surprised you. The way he looked at you when he said that… it was as if his own heart was being shattered by this breakup. The way he complimented you… he sounded so sincere.
“I’m not going to give him another chance, if that’s what you’re after…” you huffed, not sure what else to say.
“I’m not asking for another chance. Not for him.” Mr Price replied.
