Captain Quintin "Rustybeard"

Legend:

Quintin Slate, known as "Rustybeard", was not a pirate born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He grew up in a port city where the smell of fish and gunpowder was more familiar than mother's milk. Quintin learned early on that honest work does not feed, and the sea is full of opportunities - both for wealth and a quick death.

He got his Rustybeard not for the color of his hair (although it was reddish), but for his habit of never cleaning his weapons. He believed that rust gave them an ominous look and scared off superstitious sailors. Quintin was a pragmatist and preferred to act rather than waste time polishing. He was known for his cunning and ruthlessness, not his bravery or chivalry.:

Quintin's crew was as ragtag and shabby as his beard.

Quintin's ship was called The Ragged Luck. It was a small but fast schooner that he had captured early in his pirate career. The ship was old and decrepit, but Quintin and his crew kept it afloat at all costs. The Ragged Luck was their home, their weapon, and their only hope for wealth and freedom.
