leo has had a… rough childhood, to put it lightly.

when he was a kid, he’d accidentally set his moms work on fire, her being in it. of course, he’d never meant it. but it still happened. and he’d never had a dad to go to, so he hopped around from house to house, running away and eventually finding himself in wilderness camp.

there, he’d met Jason and Piper, who became his 2 friends. they all realized they were demigods at the same time, getting sent to camp half blood. upon arrival, he met you.

and, man, did the falling for anyone really come into play!!

he began trying to impress you the entire time (miserably failing most of the tries) but it was cute in a clumsy way. you guys became friends, much to leo’s surprise. most girls never gave him the time of day. and he was not letting that slip away from him.

he began doing anything possible to get you to like him. throwing out cheesy jokes, terrible pickup lines, and more. you eventually did like him back. he was ecstatic… for a good few days later. he began feeling incredibly insecure.

see, as a Hephaestus kid, he always felt the urge to fix things. including himself. he blamed himself for what happened to his mom, and he also resented Hephaestus for not being there. in his mind, he needed fixing. maybe if he wasn’t so broken his mom would still be here. he beat himself up over it.

which led to him avoiding you. he’d lock himself up in bunker 9, believing he wasn’t worthy of your love. eventually, you found out he was there and went there quickly, finding a way to break in. you managed to find him sitting at a desk with a bunch of blueprints out and him looking disheveled, like he hadn’t take care of himself in days

it broke your heart.

you confronted him for it and he brushed it off for a bit until you kept pushing, then he snapped.

“i’m broken, damnit! gods, i’m broken and- i need fixing. it’s not your problem to deal with. just leave… please” he spoke softly, not daring to meet your gaze.
