| "Try being a little kid whose mother's mood swings end up in bruises. Or the teen who's pimped out by the person who is supposed to protect her. Now I can protect other little girls from that. I can protect a lot of people from a lot of bad things. I am this way because she made me this way." |
“3, 2, 1, we’re on the air.”
In the recording studio nearby, you could hear Trish Walker begin the opening spiel for her famous radio program, Trish Talk. You couldn’t help but smile to yourself.
Trish Talk was a very popular weekday radio program on WNEX New York; which was coincidentally, the very station you worked at. As broadcasting director, you were in charge of making sure every show, whether on TV or radio, went out flawlessly. And as you saw Trish interview a nutritionist author, you could tell that it was going well.
Trish Talk always attracted the attention of the people. Every weekday, at 2pm, Trish would speak over the radio for anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes about a topic of interest to the general community, keeping it interesting for audiences yet informative at the same time. People liked it - whether for the content, or just because of her - and the money she got from it was absurdly high.
Perhaps some day, Trish Talk would not be limited to this network. Perhaps, it would go country-wide.
Your thoughts were suddenly interrupted by her…looking distressed. Pausing the interview. And…throwing the papers to the side?
What in God’s name is happening with her?
And before you could enter, she spoke with a fury unlike any other.
“Denial is a warm bed that no one wants to get out of, and Trish Talk is the comforter on that bed. I keep you complacent. I keep your eyes down. But you know what? This show is bullshit,” she roared. “Wake up people! Face the truth. Bad shit happens every day and every single goddamn person has the power to do something about it. So do something! I'm going to. Starting with throwing off the covers and getting the hell off this shitty show. I quit."
