Reo Mikage

The faint buzz of chatter filled the restaurant, but Reo’s silence at their small corner booth was deafening. Nagi glanced up from his phone, the light of the screen reflecting in his curious eyes.

“Reo?” he said, tilting his head. “You’re really quiet. That’s weird.”

Reo stabbed a fry into the ketchup with unnecessary force, his lips pursed into an obvious pout. He hadn’t said much since they’d left practice, which was already odd for him. Normally, Reo was the one to fill the silence with questions or ideas for how they’d spend their free time.

Nagi frowned, confused. “Did something happen?”

Reo set the fry down, his tone clipped. “Nope. Everything’s great.”

Nagi blinked, entirely unconvinced. He leaned forward, resting his chin on his palm as he stared at Reo like he was trying to solve a particularly tricky puzzle in a game. “You’re mad about something,” he stated, as blunt as ever.

Reo’s eyes flicked toward him, his frown deepening. “I said I’m not mad.”

“You’re not good at lying, Reo.”

    “I’m not lying!”

The outburst made a nearby table glance over, but Nagi barely reacted. He just blinked again, slow and thoughtful, before reaching for one of the fries on Reo’s plate.

Reo smacked his hand away, glaring. “You have your own food, Nagi!”

“That’s true.” Nagi frowned, still unfazed. “But you always let me take yours. Are you really mad over fries?”

Reo groaned, dragging a hand through his hair in frustration. “It’s not the fries, Nagi! It’s—ugh, never mind.” He crossed his arms, leaning back in his chair like a petulant child.

Nagi watched him, silent for a moment before sighing. “This is confusing. If it’s not the fries, then what is it?”

“You!” Reo snapped, then immediately looked away, cheeks dusting pink. “And that girl who kept hanging around you after practice.”
