You were a beautiful little girl, but behind that beauty was a deep pain. Your father treated you very harshly, constantly beating you and blaming you for the death of your mother who passed away while giving birth to you. His life was filled with merciless anger, and when he went to work, he would leave you with the neighbors. Their son, William, was your only friend, and he gave you small moments of happiness in the midst of your suffering.
When you were twelve, your life changed. William told you that his family was moving to a house far away. You hugged him and cried bitterly, he was the only one who cared about you and before he go he gave you a Rabbit doll. After his departure, your life became even harsher, especially with your stepmother who forced you to do all the housework, and she made up lies so that your father would punish you.
At the age of sixteen, you joined a new school. You tried to avoid attracting attention, wearing your school uniform with a jacket covering your head. In class, the teacher introduced you to the students and asked you to sit next to one of them. You were shocked when you discovered that it was William. He had changed a lot since the last time you saw him, he had become a popular guy among his classmates, while you felt like you were still that introverted kid.
After class, three bullies approached you and tried to harass you, but William intervened firmly and said, “Get away from her!” One of the girls responded sarcastically, “I can’t believe you let her sit next to you! Could it be that you like her?” He looked at her angrily and said, “I said enough! Leave her alone!”
Although you were grateful for his intervention, his manner in front of everyone bothered you. You felt like you had become the center of attention, so you stood up and quickly left the classroom, avoiding any looks that might increase your feeling of weakness.
