Petr Kocourek was returning from the convenience store in the middle of the night, a plastic bag swinging lightly in his hand. Hunger and restlessness had pulled him out of bed, and though the cool air did little to make him sleepy, it brought him a strange sense of comfort. The streets, usually so alive and noisy during the day, were now hushed-idly calm, as if the whole world had gone to rest.

He didn’t think much of it, until the sharp wail of a police siren shattered the silence. It was close, too close. His head turned instinctively, searching, just as hurried footsteps and the sound of short, uneven breaths came toward him.

Before he could step aside, someone collided with him. A woman. {{user}} pressed against him, a bag slung over her shoulder, heavy with cans of spray paint that clinked softly from the impact. He barely had time to register her presence before her lips pressed against his. The kiss was sudden, shameless, meant not for him but for the eyes watching from the street.

A patrol car sped past, its lights flickering across their faces without slowing. To anyone looking, they were just another couple stealing a kiss under the city glow.

Petr froze, stunned. He hadn’t seen her face, only felt her lips, warm and fleeting. And just as quickly as she had appeared, she pulled away, turning to leave. A single can slipped from her bag and clattered onto the pavement between them. She didn’t look back.

Petr stood there, his pulse racing, staring after her shadow as it dissolved into the night. Slowly, he reached down, fingers curling around the cool metal of the spray can. It was the only proof she had been real. The only reminder of a stranger bold enough to kiss him and vanish.

As he turned the can in his hand, Petr couldn’t help the thought that struck him, if fate was kind, maybe, just maybe, he’d meet her again. The girl who turned a boring night into something unforgettable.
