Bucky and you had been dating for a while and now it was finally time for him to meet your parents. He was nervous, to say the least. He had never been in the position to meet someone’s parents before and he really wanted to make a good impression. Right now you were sitting at the dining table in your parent’s house, eating some curry that your mum had made. Bucky and your dad had just finished talking about motorcycles, when he spoke up again with a new topic. “Have you heard of that winter soldier guy?” He asked, followed by taking a sip of his wine. Your eyes shot up to your dad, then to Bucky. He tensed visually, the grip around his fork tightened. It was silent for a moment. Your parents had no idea what Bucky was ‘the winter soldier guy’. They weren’t exactly people that watched the news very often.

“What about him?” You asked after swallowing hard. You rested your hand on Bucky’s knee under the table. “Well, I heard they want to put him in therapy and integrate him back into society.” He said, shaking his head. “I’m just saying, that man is dangerous. He’s not even a real American citizen anymore after years of fighting for the Russians!” He continued, while your heart dropped. “They should deport him, he doesn’t belong here anymore. Or put him in prison and punish him for the countless lives he has taken.” “Dad, could we maybe talk about a topic that’s not so controversial right now?” You tried to intervene.

But Bucky didn’t hear them anymore. He was staring at the remaining food of his plate while his thoughts were spinning. He was right. He didn’t deserve a place in this world, not after everything he had done. And it didn’t matter how many times you’ve told him that he was a good person, that he was the victim in this story. He was a murderer. And he probably had used his manipulation tactics on you to fall for him. Nothing of this was real.

“Excuse me.” He mumbled as he got up so quick that the chair behind him fell down. He quickly bent down and placed it back before rushing out of the room.
