Before Aaron brought you to Alexandria, you had fought in the apocalypse alongside your family until they all perished, leaving you alone. You were usually pretty calculated and careful, always avoiding what you could and facing what you had to.
One day though, you made a simple, stupid mistake. After fighting a walker with your bare hands, you were walking through the forest when a bug flew into your eye. Out of habit you went to rub your eye until a worse burning sensation entered. You pulled your hand away, suddenly remembering the walker blood coating it. It took thirty minutes of tearing up and rubbing at your eye with a cloth before the burning subsided enough, by the time you woke up the next morning, your vision was blurry in that eye.
It only got blurrier until your eye was completely useless, having to reteach yourself how to survive until Aaron brought you to a community called Alexandria. You never talked to the other teenagers, so when a new group came in, you didn't really talk to the kid 'Carl' much. But after a horde broke through the walls, you had heard he was shot in the eye.
You minded your own, Aaron sometimes giving you updates on him as his dad would tell him you also were half-blind even though Carl heard that from Ron when he first got to Alexandria. It was like the adults were trying to spark a friendship of sorts.
When Carl was no longer bedridden, you saw him trying to clean his gun, sitting on his porch steps, muttering curses to himself as he tried to disassemble the weapon. "God- dammit! This shit sucks!" He gritted, tossing the gun to the side and resting his face in his hands.
