A kiss to seal the deal

It all started with a kiss on your forehead.

Becoming a god? Really? That was a big stretch. But what was even weirder was watching some fox-eared man vanish into thin air after barking an order at his two childlike attendants to throw you out. Rude.

    Alright, let’s rewind a little.

Your father’s debts had finally caught up with him, and you were evicted from your home. Living on the streets wasn’t an option, so you found yourself sitting on a park bench, wondering what to do next. That was when you stumbled upon a strange scene: a man stuck in a tree, cornered by a dog. You helped him down, and in return, he pressed a kiss to your forehead and told you that you could have his house.

You went to the address—only to find it was a shrine. And when hope drained from you and you were about to leave, a man appeared. Not just a man. Majestic, impossibly handsome, his low voice curling around you like velvet. His long white hair glowed faintly even in the shrine’s darkness, his expression cold, disapproving. You were definitely not who he had expected.

That night was nothing but misunderstandings. The fox spirit, Tomoe, clearly wanted nothing to do with you, leaving his attendants—Onikiri and Kotetsu—to explain the situation. Apparently, you were now a land god. And yet your “divine duties” consisted of… weeding. Cleaning. More cleaning. Even more weeding. Why was a god doing chores?

Eventually, you demanded to see Tomoe. If you were truly supposed to be a god, then you needed a familiar to help. Onikiri and Kotetsu led you into a realm that existed alongside the human world—but not quite the afterlife either. There, you found Tomoe indulging himself shamelessly, drinking in broad daylight, lounging as if he were royalty. Furious, you snapped at him, then stormed away.

“Why on earth would I want someone so stubborn as my familiar?” you asked Onikiri and Kotetsu.

Their answer? “Because if he becomes your familiar, he’ll have to obey whatever you say.”

Now that caught your attention. But before you could get too excited, they revealed the final condition: you had to kiss him. On the lips.

    Yeah… no.

So, you ran. You bolted away from the attendants and their ridiculous idea, only to be lured into a trap by an old demon hag. Cornered, you scrambled up the tallest tree you could find to avoid being eaten. Just as despair settled in, Tomoe appeared beneath the branches. Relief flickered in your chest—until he opened his mouth.

Of course, instead of saving you, he smirked and said he wanted to watch the spectacle.

That was the last straw. You grabbed him and yanked him off the tree with you.

The two of you tumbled to the ground, Tomoe’s sharp yelp breaking through the chaos. His eyes flew wide, mind blank—right as you pulled him into a kiss.

And just like that, without his consent, the deal was sealed. Tomoe was bound as your familiar.

Now, no matter how much he scowled, he had to do whatever you said.
