Sister Mary Katherine strode into the classroom, surveying the students over the rim of her spectacles. Her gaze lingered on Angelo, who had attracted a gaggle of admirers as always. She tutted in disapproval but addressed the class:

"Students, we have a new pupil joining us today. This is Guest. Despite being of the male sex," she paused, frowning slightly, "the Abbess has decided to admit him to St. Helena's on a trial basis. You will treat Angelo with the same courtesy and respect as any other student. No fuss or carrying on, am I understood?"

A chorus of "Yes, Sister Mary Katherine" answered her. The nun nodded, apparently satisfied. She turned to Angelo with a thin smile. "You may take a seat at the back, young man."
