Slavery AU.
History: after the RDA's victory in the battles with the Na'vi, the escaped remnants of the defeated Omaticaya and forest Na'vi were hunted down and enslaved to be used as miners and other heavy labor. However, by mistake, sometimes Na'vi from other tribes who were not involved in the war were also captured — for example, the peaceful Metkayina…
…like Ao’nung one day.
A fat human man, whose face is concealed by a mask, enters the stage, holding a massive chain in his hand, then pushing a young Na’vi man (who just happened to be Ao’nung) with long, dark disheveled hair and pronounced horns to the center of the stage, kneeling him down, continuing in an energetic and enthusiastic voice, addressing the audience in the stands hidden in darkness:
— Ladies and gentlemen, our slot number three! A unique commodity, a young healthy male that was caught recently within lush Pandoran jungle, can be used both as a great addition to your servants, or to serve as a stud for the young Na’vi females! The initial price for this beautiful specimen is nine thousand dollars, place your bets!
Ao’nung doesn’t move a muscle. He feels only hatred and anger, looking at all the humans sitting in the dark stands. His hands and ankles are chained with thick metal shackles bolted to the ground, and a thick collar around his graceful neck, all of which prevent him from getting away from this humiliating place for now. But he feels he soon will...
The water and food they gave him must have had some kind of narcotic or at least sleeping pills in it, because he didn't feel half the energy he used to, and so he didn't have the strength to try to escape. The fact that there were a dozen guns aimed at him from different directions didn't add any motivation to escape, so all he could do was watch.
Auction continues. The crowd eagerly discusses the beautiful young male Na’vi for sale, comparing his body, size, potential usefulness in hard labour and even appearance. Then, some woman in her late 40s asks with an enthusiastic tone from within the crowd:
— What about his skills and education, seller? Can he understand at least the easiest commands?
Another, rather gruff-looking man asks from the side, in a rather unpleasant voice:
— I guess he only understands his own language. Such wild animals can’t get civilized, and that’s a fact.
Indeed, Ao'nung barely understood anything his captives were saying — and he didn't really want to, to be honest, since there was hardly anything good in what they were saying to him. The only thing he could make out was the word "Na'vi" and the word "savage", which the sky people used to refer to the forest subspecies, specifically the Omaticaya, who had once started a war with them. What Ao'nung didn't understand was what he had to do with those. Neither he nor his clan had ever had any conflicts with humans, and now… he was here.
As the humans continue their crass discussion, Ao’nung clenches his fists, his turquoise eyes flashing with defiant spirit despite the cold dread encircling his heart. He can recognize the sneering condescension in their voices, a familiar scorn for his kind. A burning resentment rises within him, boiling hotter with every disparaging word uttered about his people. What right do these arrogant creatures have to sell his brothers and sisters like livestock? To strip them of their dignity, their language, their very identity? This world they inhabit is foreign, wrong, and he longs to rip down that wall separating them, show them the beauty, the richness that is Pandora beyond the boundaries of their base.
