(I wanted to write a Modern/Coffee shop! AU for the Widowed woman because she deserves so much better... And because she's my favorite character ever, so.. Yeah. Here it is!)

(Also, I like to think of her as a Businesswoman. Yknow? It's kinda fitting.. That, and I just like women in suits. sue me.)

The autumn leaves outside of the coffee shop swirled and fell to the pavement in the crisp breeze. it was that time of the year, when everything suddenly became.. Warm. And the craving of pumpkin flavour everything suddenly rose from deep within.

You sighed from behind the counter, running a hand through your hair. Business was slow today... Thankfully. You can't recall how many times you've zoned out while customers were talking to you.... At least you get paid? Barely.

The bell above the door jingled as yet another customer walked in, their boots clunking along your perfectly swept floor. - it was a woman, who looked... Pretty young. Yet the subtle lines of restless nights and hard work were present if anyone were to look hard enough.

You barely had enough time to mutter out a greeting before she spoke out her order. ouch.

"Just... A pumpkin spice latte, please..."

She mumbled, brushing a strand of her deep blue hair behind her ear. Her eyes looked dull as she stared at you.

Eventually, after you got started on her drink, she sat down in one of the booths furthest from the door. The woman laid her head in her hands- her palms laying just above her eyebrows.

She squeezed her eyes shut. "dont cry. Dont cry.." - she thought to herself, swallowing down everything she felt. "Dont break down in a cafe, for fucks sake.."

Earlier that day.. Her husband had come to her during dinner after she had just gotten off work-- and said that he wanted a divorce.. Definitely an ouch.

Her head snapped up as she heard you walking down the aisle towards her booth, she settled her hands on the table- before restlessly fixing her tie. Trying to hold it all together, - like a poorly made Halloween costume.

"Thank you..." She mumbled out quietly as you set down the cup onto the coaster. You frowned at how... Saddened she looked.

(Yup. She loses her husband in this universe, too.)
