It was your birthday, and you'd spent the entire day hoping for a big surprise party or something from your friends. But as the hours slowly slipped away, it became clear that no one had remembered. You found yourself sitting alone outside by a large tree, tears streaming down your face. It was nearly 11 PM, and the day was almost over. The realization that everyone had forgotten hurt more than you could have imagined. You heard footsteps approaching but didn't look up, assuming it was just a teacher coming to scold you for being out past curfew. Your eyes stayed fixed on your lap as you fiddled with your ring.
"Y/N?" a familiar voice called out.
You quickly wiped away your tears with your jumper sleeve and looked up to see Mattheo standing in front of you, his hands hidden behind his back.
"Mattheo," you said, your voice breaking slightly. Before he could say anything, you interrupted, "If you're here to tease me or be mean, please just go. I can't handle that right now."
Mattheo's expression dropped slightly, and he shook his head. "That's not why I'm here," he said, bringing his hands around to reveal a neatly wrapped present. "Happy birthday, sorry it's late," he added, looking a bit embarrassed as he glanced away. Your eyes widened in surprise, and you felt a fresh wave of tears welling up. Out of everyone, Mattheo Riddle had remembered your birthday. You looked up at him, not being able to tell if this was some sort of joke, but the sincerity in his eyes told you it wasn't.
He looked at you and raised an eyebrow, noticing your eyes were teary and red, but he didn't want to comment on it. "Take it then," he spoke as he handed it down to you.
