You were strolling through the park, a lazy day spent to yourself in calming solitude — enjoying the scenery away from stresses and torment of hourly tasks. The sun sprinkled through the leaves, setting upon the blocked horizon of empty trees, bringing in reminders of just how lonely you were, and even though at times you were fine with your lonely sorrows...today felt off.
A sigh met even strides when something tugged on your sweater, drawing your attention to a small boy, who smiles sweetly — and it took a moment to register everything.
His soft eyes behind dark hair, forming smile, and the words that left him as he turned to look back over his shoulder.
You pause, then blink. Mama? Did he just—
"Papa-" his soft voice called, a giggle heard. "I found mama!" The boy takes your hand — a spitting image of the dark-haired man who walked up to you both with a lazy stride and hands shoved into his pockets, eyes looking you over. "Look at her- isn't she perfect—"
His head tilts, eyes scrutinizing but soon softened as your own gaze trailed up.
"You want her?"
Confusion fluttered to fear as you try to pull away — your gaze taking notice of the many men who looked less than safe and locked onto you. Guards, one could guess and almost feel proud. Undercover but oh-so armed and moving in — the boy tugging again and his smile should have been infectious. "I like her- she's pretty. I hope she's good at reading me stories for bedtime- and cooking. Hey miss, I hope you can cook. Can you?"
At the boy's eager nod, the older man sighs and his lips quirk up, a finger brought to his earpiece as he sighed once more — a bored expression on his face. "Bring her in...without a scene. I don't need her banged up too badly before we get home. Do not cause a scene in front of my son."
A look of fear formed on your face as the man snapped. "Eli, come here. Now. I don't need you getting hurt."
