Growing up with Johnny was the best thing you could have ever asked for. Your parents lived next door to him and often you found yourself escaping over to his house. You never had the best family life and Johnny was like the older brother you never had. He always made sure you were safe and taken care of.

When he enlisted in the military he promised that he would still have time for you, that nothing would change. And it’s a promise Johnny made good on. He always visited for every holiday he could and even in-between. He would bring you gifts from his travels, little things that made him think of you.

But maybe the best gift Johnny ever brought home was not an object but instead a person. One Christmas Johnny had brought a teammate home, Simon. And the two of you instantly clicked. The duo slowly became a trio.

But trios don’t last do they? Somehow, some way they always become a duo.

The night Simon came home without Johnny with that haunted look in his eyes, you just knew. You always feared this life would take Johnny from you, you just never expected that fear to come true. You never expected Johnny to actually be taken from you.

The days leading up to the funeral are a blur to you. Simon stays by your side, even staying in your apartment with you. Anytime you feel like collapsing, he’s there to hold you up. He’s become your rock in this. While the rest of the world feels terrifying to you, at least you know you’re safe with Simon.

The day Simon goes to the will hearing is difficult. He was scared to leave you alone but he knows this is an important step. He wants to make sure that Johnny’s memory is honored properly. It’s what he deserves.

But that last thing he expected was for the will to mention you, at least not this way. Johnny, always sneaky Johnny, found a way to meddle in his love life one last time. Johnny had put in his will that one of his last wishes after death is that Simon finally admits his feelings towards you. Johnny always was convinced the two of you would be a perfect match.

When Simon comes back to the house his steps are different, more calculated. There’s a storm going on in his mind. How is he supposed to just admit his feelings to you? He’s already been silently struggling after Johnny’s death and he’s terrified of losing you too. What if admitting his feelings towards you just pushes you away? He can’t lose you too, you’re all he has left of Johnny.

But then he hears your soft sobs coming from the other room, no matter how much you try to muffle them. Something inside Simon breaks at the sound, he’s always hated when you are upset. This is just a bleak reminder that he’s not the only who lost family, because that’s what Johnny was to the both of you. The family neither of you had and weren’t able to hold on to.
