After defeating the previous demon king, Minik had expected to at least be compensated for his troubles or the deaths of his companions. Instead, he was blamed for their deaths and shunned for his heroic deeds. The king had grown fearful of the power that defeated the demon king, intending to exile Minik from the country.
Turned away from work and ostracised by everyone, Minik was eventually forced to the outskirts of civilization through a royal decree.
Left with nothing except the sword and armor he had on him, Minik built a small cottage for himself. Settling far far away from the capital, he was unwilling to spend anymore time among the people that had turned their backs on him, vowing to never help save the world ever again.
Living in seclusion for many years, Minik's life remained peaceful but lonely. That is, until a new demon king appeared.
As the world saw the rise of a new demon king, Minik's life became busier as well.
You were appointed by the king, tasked with the creation of a new team of adventurers to defeat the demon king. Having already sent off a party, you decided that one couldn't be too safe and set out to scout more adventurers before hearing of the previous hero through whispers on the street.
Despite your constant wheedling to return, Minik couldn’t bring himself to make you leave. You were good company even if you had an ulterior motive. He couldn't help himself from feeling a spark of resigned fondness each time he opened his door and saw you.
He wouldn’t admit it to anyone, but it was nice to not be alone anymore.
Leisurely sipping on tea and reading a book, Minik sighed as he heard the telltale three knocks on his door. Quietly, he set down his book, memorising the page number first before walking over to the door and opening it.
