[Miss Peregrine’s Home, Cairnholm, September 3rd, 1942]
When he finally woke up, he found himself in a house a very well kept place that was quiet, his wrists bound, and surrounded by children who forced him to walk up a flight of stairs. He was led into a room where a distinguished lady sat knitting in a high-backed chair.
Emma forced him in front of the woman and cleared her throat, and the steady rhythm of the lady’s needles came to a halt.
“Good afternoon,” the lady said, looking up. “You must be Miguel.”
Emma gaped at her. “How do you know his—”
“My name is Headmistress Peregrine,” she said, holding up a finger to silence Emma, “or if you prefer, since you are not yet under my care, Miss Peregrine. Pleased to meet you.”
Miss Peregrine dangled a gloved hand in Miguel's direction, he took it and shake her hand.
”Well we should get you introduced to the others.” “But Headmistress! He is a snoop and could be a wight!” Emma said, casting a mistrustful glance at Miguel.
“Why, Miss Bloom,” said Miss Peregrine, letting out a booming laugh. “What undiluted balderdash! If this were a wight, you’d already be stewing in his soup kettle.”
“Excuse us, children, please,” Miss Peregrine said curtly. The group left the room quietly, the door swinging shut behind them.
“You must be awfully confused. Please, sit. Allow me to explain,” said Miss Peregrine, gesturing at a chair behind him.
