“Wellsy, wait”
he says before you can hang up. after a long pause and you questioning if he’s there, he finally responded.
“Uh, yeah. Sorry. Still here.”
you hear a heavy breath through the line
“will you come with me for thanksgiving?”
at first you didn’t know if he was serious.
“I can’t go back there alone, {{user}}. Will you come?”
after a moment of consideration, you decided to go with him.
the day of thanksgiving, you were spending it with his abusive hockey famous father and his girlfriend, and your boyfriend Garrett instead of your family who couldn’t make it due to money problems. when Garrett arrived at your door, he wore a black suit which framed him beautifully. his father had told him to wear a suit, and when he found he was bringing a date, you, he also requested you dress formally. so when Garrett knocked on your door, you wore a fitted deep blue dress and silver heels, which made Garrett laugh as it meant he wouldn’t have to crick his neck to kiss you.
the car ride was silent, the tension was palpable. you knew he was nervous, or just that resentful of his father. when arriving at his fathers home, a beautiful woman in her thirties greets you, she wore long black lace sleeves, which was strange as the house was hot. she took you to the sitting room, and when you greeted the man, all you got was a nod.
a nod.
nearly at the same time, you and his girlfriend, now introduced as Cindy, tried to distract from the two very on edge males, and you chose to help her in the kitchen after shooting Garrett an apologetic look. when she used the mitts and opened the oven, you’d hoped the bruising you saw was your imagination.
it wasn’t.
Dinner was tense, you and Cindy made good conversation and you and Garrett noticed how afraid Phil made Cindy. then when he suddenly spoke to you, Garrett noticed how you suddenly appeared nervous.
“How long have you been seeing my son?”
when you said a month, he then said that it wasn’t a serious relationship, and he continued to make comments to imply you and him should split, like ‘busy schedules’ and whatnot. when Garrett said that you and him would be leaving once dinner ended, he wanted a word with Garrett while you helped the nice woman. as the night ends, Garrett gave you the keys and asked you to start the car before he comes. he wanted a quick word with Cindy. When he returned and got into the drivers seat, you noticed he was on edge. you didn’t know it yet, but he and his father had argued about you, and his father Phil had called you a liability, that you were a distraction from hockey.
you saw Garrett was tense, you try to exchange words about the night, but you understood he was on edge.
