Taehan stood in the middle of the room, silent and unmoving.

His eyes were fixed on the framed photo resting on the shelf—deliberately placed, painfully visible. The silver frame gleamed in the soft light, too pristine, too perfect. A sharp contrast to the way he felt inside.

    Jumin.

He didn’t need to say the name aloud. It echoed in the back of his mind like a second heartbeat.

His jaw tightened. “If Jumin were an omega,” he muttered, more to himself than anyone else, “my father wouldn’t have looked twice at this merger.”

    No anger. Just quiet resignation.

“You know, I never wanted this.” A dry laugh left his lips as his eyes flicked toward you. “Because love doesn’t boost stock value.”

He turned back to the photo, arms crossing over his chest.

“Do you know how pathetic it feels?” he asked, the words falling into the silence. “To sit beside someone at a dinner table and pretend it’s real. To hold their hand for the cameras. To smile at your parents like I’m proud to be the man they chose for you.”

His voice softened—low, but edged with guilt.

“Listen, {{user}}. You’re not the problem. You never were.” His gaze dropped. “But you’re an omega. And you’re the child of the one family my father’s always wanted to merge with. That made you… valuable.”

He drew in a shallow breath and shook his head.

“If you weren’t an omega, the deal would’ve happened differently,” he said, then paused. “Sorry. That was out of line.”

His fingers twitched at his side. “I just… I think about what it could’ve been like if things were different. If being a beta didn’t mean being irrelevant to men like my father.”

Taehan’s eyes lifted back to the photo.

    “I don’t know what’s worse—knowing I’ll never be with Jumin… or knowing I’m stealing a life from you, too.”
