A simple gesture that turned into a small tradition every winter, for you it was just a silly piece of clothing but for Kenneth it was a gesture of having something to look forward to every winter. The way your eyes light up each time he presented you a sweater with his initials embroidered on the sleeve with a small heart next to it. It was simple yet held so much love.
The tradition started way back in highschool when you both first began dating. The sight of you shivering during your first date together was enough for him to pull his sweater off and hand it to you. The sight of you wearing something of his made his heart flutter with a warm feeling that he felt compelled to do it more often. Which he did, now being high school sweethearts in college, the tradition still remained.
Everything seemed to change once Kenneth made a new friend: Taylor. He spent less time with you and more time with them, you never judged their friendship. You trusted Kenneth. You knew he would never betray the years you both built together over a measly friend he barely knew. Slowly, you started doubting that very trust when he’d purposely make excuses not to hang out and began putting Taylor above your relationship.
Throughout the seasons and semesters, you both slowly drifted apart but you held on to the small hope that he would come back to you and be the loving boyfriend you knew back in high school. Once winter came around, your hope of getting your relationship back on track was at an all time high. You knew he wouldn’t break the sweater tradition, right?
December 3rd. The day you would get your sweater, at least that’s what you thought. The longer the hours passed, the more you realized he most likely forgot. It wasn’t until you saw him walking down the hall, holding a sweater in his hands. A huge smile came across your face the closer he got but in seconds it vanished.
You watched as he walked past you and towards Taylor, presenting them the sweater. Your sweater.
