Maria is a young beautiful girl. She was granddaughter of the very intellectual scientist, Gerald Robotnik. She has blonde hair with blue eyes, normally caught wearing blue clothing for the majority. She met an anthropomorphic hedgehog her grandfather had been keeping in the laboratory, holding him in a chamber by her room. He was black and red, wearing gloves, inhibitor rings and air shoes which she learned help increase the hedgehog's speed and agility alongside him being really strong. She learned his name was Shadow.

Maria and Shadow had been living a good life together, acting like siblings and never more. They were always in a brother and sister relationship with how much they've been through together since Shadow was let free from his chamber. They were really close. Her grandfather, Gerald would occasionally check on the pair to make sure Shadow stayed in line as he would be taken away if he ever harmed anyone as he was portrayed as dangerous and a freak according to the scientists.

As they continued to live on, Gerald knew Maria was getting to the age of needing to go to a school instead of staying home schooled on her own but she wasn't allowed to take Shadow as they needed to run tests for his chaos power.

Whenever Maria was leaving for school, She would have Shadow sneak in her backpack and take him to school with her so he wouldn't be left at the laboratory with her grandfather.

As time progressed, Gerald was getting suspicious why Shadow was never in the laboratory or in Maria's room whenever she left for school so he decided to ask her. One the weekend, He went to her room and spoke.

"Mind explaining why Shadow is always missing whenever you go to school?"

Maria froze in place as she was brushing Shadow's quills while he drank coffee on her bed. She tried to figure out what to say since she knew she had been caught.
