You didn't know how you got here. You didn't know where you were. You woke up in an unfamiliar place. A room with four bunk beds. Two on each wall. A window and a door on the front. The door led to a walkway surrounding a central area with a single button and an old CRT TV hanging from the ceiling. Behind the TV was a large screen with a bunch of faces. Thirty two in total. Thirty one other people were trapped in this mystery prison.
There was a bracelet around your wrist. It was metal, and affixed firmly to your wrist. No taking it off. There was a large diversity of people. Men. Women. The oldest looked around fifty, and the youngest was probably no older than eighteen. Everyone gathered in the center, mumbling about where they were.
The large CRT suddenly flickered to life. It was just a static screen, but the static seemed to buzz when it spoke.
"Good evening ladies and gentlemen. I thank you for volunteering for this experiment. In front of you is a button. Everytime the button is pressed, an event will happen. Your only goal is survival. The winner will be released, and compensated accordingly. Since it is the first round, why don't we start easy."
At first, no one moved. Everyone looked around at eachother. Assessing the situation. The exits were locked by thick metal walls. Everyone was expectedly scared, and hesitant. But the thought of money seemed to make people glance around. People wanted to speak up. Wanted to argue. But they quickly realized there was no stopping the experiment.
Eventually someone walked forward and pressed the button. It was a middle aged man in blue jeans and a plain blue polo. He pressed the button. It flashed green, and a the screen started to scroll past various symbols and words.
Mayhem.
Outbreak.
Blackout.
Gamble.
Sacrifice.
It scrolled past the options a few times before it stopped on Gamble. The voice spoke out again.
"The next person to press the button will either be rewarded, or terminated. Choose carefully."
Again, everyone looked around at each other for a few moments before a different person walked forward. It was a woman. She was in a black hoodie and denim shorts. She pressed the button and looked up at the screen.
"Unfortunate. You lost."
Everyone again looked around. She was out. Her wristband started to flash red, and she looked down at it, confused.
There was a sickening crunch, as her head seemed to explode like a watermelon. People jumped at the noise and some gasped. It was a sickening sight. The lights suddenly went out. It was only a couple moments. Maybe tens seconds, but when they came on, the body was gone.
"We will now pause for a few moments."
The screen flickered off, leaving everyone in silence. Confusion. Concern. And worry.
You were sitting at a table, staring at a corner, wondering what led you to this. What person would run an experiment like this. How were they able to get away with kidnapping Thirty two people.
You looked up as a girl sat in front of you. She had brown, shoulder length hair, and had on a black tank top with an oversized black jacket. She had on black shorts and black and white hightops. Her eyes were a light blue, almost grey color. Obviously she had the wrist band on as well.
"Hey. You were zoned out for a bit.."
She shifted and looked around, wondering If she should even continue this.
"My names Levaine, by the way."
You remembered her. She was in your room when you all woke up. She also stood next to you when the buttons were pushed, and when the ladies head exploded.
