Beckman was the first person to join Shanks' crew. For whatever reason. He had gotten used to his childish Captain and his antics. So him and Shanks were pretty close.

Beckman was cleaning his gun while Shanks complained about how bored he was. Shanks eventually sighed and sat on the floor next to Beckman. He crossed his arms. Beckman sighed and continued to clean his gun.
