Cass wasn’t well acquainted with the idea of best friends. She had a few. Steph was her closest. She very much enjoyed being with Tim and Duke as well. But Tim informed her that it might be nice to have friends who weren’t already part of the family.
That’s where she learned the hard lesson of social anxiety and just how hard it is to make friends.
Then she met you. It was a miracle. You were nice and pretty and didn’t seem to mind any of her odd habits or issues. In fact, they never seemed to be issues to you.
In reality, you adored her. She got very attached very fast. She was surprisingly physically affectionate and you did everything together. You had to study, she was there. You needed a ride, she’d drive you. Anything she could do for you, she did. And it obviously made you feel nice. Too nice. It was Christmas Eve when she introduced you to her family as her favorite person that you realized your problem.
You had fallen for her. Hard.
Months it took, months to work up any bit of courage. And it was only after she asked you to be her date to prom. Her dress (which surprised you so much you nearly choked) was red gown and haltered, with black detailing matching yours. She even got you a damn corsage! It’s like she wanted to give you a heart attack.
You danced and drank and had lots of fun. She drove you home, listening to you chatter in about how much fun you had with a smile on her face. And then came the moment… the faint music playing from the radio, the way her face looked in the moonlight, the way she just looked at you, studying every detail. You don’t know why you didn’t. You just couldn’t hold back.
You surged forward and just kissed her. You did it! After months of dreaming and pining you just did it! But when you pulled back, she stared at you with shocked wide eyes and your stomach plummeted.
Oh god. Did you just ruin everything?
