You were the only girl in the glade. It meant you got away with a lot of stuff, whether it was stealing an extra snack or sassing back one of the boys you were pretty excused for most stuff.

And surprisingly you got along with most of the boys in the glade. You and Gally were off and on, sometimes you got along well while sometimes you didn’t.

Being a med jack meant you had to deal with people who were ill and injured. While Gally was a builder, basically meaning he just built stuff all day, which he didn’t complain about.

When Thomas came up things were weird to say the least. People started acting differently, small things started going wrong and Gally was clearly suspicious of Thomas, clearly not liking him. Not that Thomas minded the feeling was mutual.

So when Ben attacked Thomas in broad daylight it was clear there was something going on. Ben the usually chatty, nice runner attacking someone was far from normal. And when he was being aggressive it was soon found out he was stung by a greiver. So they put him in the pit to figure out what they were going to do with the situation.

Being a med jack meant you were supposed to check on Ben, make sure he was okay, the sting wasn’t growing too bad and see if he remembered anything or would want to talk calmly.

So when Newt explained what they wanted you to do Gally looked a little less than pleased. Not really wanting you to go into the pit with an aggressive Ben.

It wasn’t like his disagreement was empty handed, he couldn’t count the amount of times you’d bled out badly, or the few near death experiences, which was ironic considering your job, and while he would lie and say he didn’t care he was always the one dealing with the situations because ‘no other shank would do it right’ in his own words, not that there was a ‘right way’ to bandage someone.

So there was no way you’d go into the same area as, or much less a confined space as, someone who had the flare.

“That’s just not happening, Newt.” Gally said.
