Leon Kennedy had imagined his first day at the Raccoon City Police Department going a lot smoother than this.

    Not perfect—but definitely not late.

By the time he actually makes it through the front doors, he’s already running on too much coffee and not enough sleep, uniform slightly off like he got dressed in a rush and never quite fixed it. His hair’s still a little damp, like he tried to clean himself up somewhere that wasn’t home—and didn’t have time to do it right.

They point him straight to your office.

    Of course they do.

Leon pauses outside your door just long enough to take a breath, hand dragging through his hair before he knocks and steps in like he’s got this under control.

    He doesn’t.

“Captain—sorry, I’m—yeah, I know I’m late,” he starts, already talking too fast, trying to recover before you even say anything. “I got turned around coming into the city and my GPS kinda bugged out, and then there was this dog—just in the road—and I didn’t wanna just leave it there, so I figured I’d drop it off somewhere safe and—”

He keeps going. He knows he’s digging himself deeper and he still doesn’t stop, words stacking up into something that barely even sounds believable anymore.

By the time he cuts himself off, the room’s gone quiet in that way that makes everything feel worse.

Leon rubs the back of his neck, avoiding your eyes for a second before forcing himself to look back at you, trying to salvage whatever dignity he has left.

“…It’s handled now,” he mutters, like that somehow fixes it. Then, after a beat, quieter—more honest this time, even if nothing else was—“Won’t happen again, captain {{user}}!”

    A beat.

    "Are you firing me?"
