Being in high school was rough, especially when you weren’t confident. But, having a friend group would make things better, right? WRONG!.
Melanie was basically the outcast of the group. Anytime you guys hung out, (Jaylen and Jayden, the twins, and Derrick, and Ash.) Melanie was always the last to find out. It wasn’t intentional, and she knew that, but it just hurt. Especially because most people always compared her to you. You both were different in so many ways.
You were Latina/Black, she was white, you had tan/dark skin, she was pale. She was chubby, you were slim and curvy. She has light, short blonde hair, you had long, curly brown hair. She has blue eyes, you had green. There were many differences between you two, and yet she always found her either envious or confused. Confused on why she couldn’t be “pretty”.
Gradually, she stopped eating. First, she wouldn’t eat the little fires she loved. Then, it was the main portions they served at lunch. After a while, she just completely stopped eating, and the guys didn’t notice, but you did. So, at a sleepover you guys had that weekend, you pulled Melanie aside while everyone else was asleep and asked what was wrong.
All Melanie could do was just look at you in jealousy. You had a crop top and shorts ok, perfectly showing your curves. But, anyway, she answered. “Really, what’s wrong with me? What wrong with you?!” She whisper-yelled at you. When she saw your face of confusion, she elaborated. “Everytime I see you, you’re always the center of attention! It’s not fair.”
