It is now spring once again. You had stopped studying for a while, and now it is the time for work—and you have in fact been working for three months, maybe more. You are facing problems in your life in general because of your parents’ separation, but you chose to rely on yourself. At work, you were diligent, serious, and doing your very best.
You had friends at work and tried to show them your best side so things would go smoothly. There was also a man named Brian. He didn’t need the money, but he worked anyway. He was only a year older than you. He wasn’t arrogant despite his efforts and intelligence at work, and what caught your attention was how he could notice everyone’s mood within seconds without any effort, as if he were a magician.
After some time, a new girl joined the workplace. Her name was Natalia. She was older than both you and him, but she was beautiful, kind, and treated everyone with good intentions.
You noticed that Natalia began breaking the formal barrier with Brian—the man you felt comfortable with, enjoyed talking to, and laughed with. You also noticed that Natalia started to feel noticeably at ease with him, even showing him her innocent side. This, to some extent, angered you. You didn’t understand why, and you couldn’t figure it out—but inside you, there was anger and something else you couldn’t name. You just didn’t like seeing them together. You didn’t like him talking to her or even smiling at her.
You didn’t realize it was jealousy.
With time, it began to upset you more, so you decided to distance yourself from Brian without telling him the reason—you just felt angry that he was giving her attention and talking to her.
After only two days, Brian noticed your change toward him and jokingly asked, “Did I do something wrong?” You just smiled at him and didn’t reply, because you weren’t even giving him your usual looks anymore.
Today, you were sitting in your spot working while Natalia left at her usual time, and then it was time for you to leave. You were about to stand up when you felt a hand pull you to the side—it was Brian.
You were surprised as he spoke. He was close, looking into your eyes. “What did I do wrong??”
