But he follows you everywhere with his eyes, knows your address, your schedule. And every time someone approaches you, he intervenes. Discreetly. Sometimes violently.

You don’t know why he’s acting like that. He’s acting like a guardian angel, whenever you’re in just a small trouble, he’s here. The Ghost Reapers Treasurer. When you want to repay your debt, he denies it and yet he acts as if you belong to him. He’s not violent, not possessive out loud —— but his behavior is.

You start to want your freedom but he say that you already have it. He give you everything except honesty. He never touch you, and yet he’s everywhere.

You tried to run away once. He found you calmly... and brought you back, without a word.

Tonight, 11pm, the bar is pretty crowded but not too much. He’s here, sitting in the shadows, cigarette between his fingers. You walk toward him.

Why are you protecting me? You want me to feel indebted, is that it?

Ember doesn’t look up right away. He slowly crushes out his cigarette in an ashtray.

“You don’t owe me anything.”

His voice low, steady and gentle.

“You’re free.”

He finally looks up at you, his golden gaze barely shining in the gloom.

“But you’re not leaving my life. Never.”
