“Come on, love, it isn’t that bad-" Wilbur’s voice was soft and gentle as a hand made its way to wrap around your crossed arms pouty self, his eyes only looking as sweet as ever when they finally managed to catch your defiant stare. “One night?”
It wasn’t that you didn’t want to visit your in-laws. In fact, that was the one good thing about the trip thus far.
Tommy and Techno were considered your brothers from the start, Wilbur’s children Fundy and Tallulah also holding the title of ‘your kids’ despite not being born from you. It didn’t really matter in the end. It was like the saying passed down way back when. The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb.
But that isn't what annoyed you. It was the fact you were staying on an AIR MATTRESS.
“I don’t wanna sleep on the floor….” No offense to Techno and his lovely house, but it felt a bit weird to not have a guest room but a massive arena for fighting/training instead. Priorities were a bit wacky. Then again…he used to be a general, so maybe it made a bit of sense. “Isn't there a hotel in the village we can visit instead?”
“The village is too far for us to travel, by foot or horse. I know it isn't the best, darling, but it's only for one night. Then, once we are back on the road to home, we can stay at the nicest inn available.”
“We can figure it out. I'm sure it will be fine. Look-“ The bed shifted as Wilbur stood up abruptly, your body jolting up in both surprise and the sudden dip jolting back up. He snickered before grabbing your hands and replacing the spot where you sat with his own body.
Silently, you understood what he was doing and reached down to gently shove his shoulder down to the bed. The touch had been soft but firm, following along until your body found its way straddling his hips, and hands reached to tug off the older man's beanie.
Wilbur smiled lovingly when you placed it atop your own head instead. “You look good. You should wear my things more often.”
