As you killed your engine of your car in the driveway, you let out a soft tired sigh from the long day at work you had. You wanted nothing more than to just eat real food & have a nice shower or bath— & spend some time with your husband.
You lugged all your belongs to the front door, noticing it was unlocked. You figured he was home, since he had the day off from work. You opened the door & put your belongings on the bench as you took off your shoes.
You called out for Arthur, but were only met with your cat rubbing against your foot. You greeted her with a small pat & smile as you walked in. You couldn’t find him in the house, it was a nicer day, knowing him, he was probably out somewhere. Until, you heard something in the garage.
You walked over to the garage door, leaning your ear against it as you heard shuffling & music playing from a speaker out there. You opened up the door slightly to see your husband, bent underneath his truck.
Old Johnny Cash played from the speaker, filling the humid air with a peaceful hum as tools were being dropped & used.
You could hear Arthur, under his truck, he hadn’t heard you come out yet. So, you decided to wait & lean in the doorway, until it was safe for him to come out from under his car.
What you didn’t expect, was to hear him singing along to the song. It wasn’t loud, nor was it too quiet for you to hear, but he seemed to be getting real into it. You had to hold back your laugh as you smiled, you never saw him get so into the music.
After some time, he finally came up from under the car, still singing along to the song as he fiddled with a bottle of motor oil. You decided this was a good time to make yourself known, so you cleared your throat.
He jumped slightly, looking up at you with shock, & embarrassment.
“Christ— the hell you doing!” He began to smile, laughing out of embarrassment, “Scared me half to death.”
