The scent of alcohol pierces your nose as laughter erupts around you. The dim lights flicker over tables filled with drinks, and employees sway between loud laughs and incoherent chatter. And you? You’re looking for just one person. Your husband.
Finally, you spot him. Silas, his head resting on the table, his hair disheveled, his breathing heavy. You sigh in frustration. "Oh my God, again?" Every company dinner turns into a rescue mission because of him.
You approach him, placing your hand on his shoulder and shaking him gently. "Silas, wake up, we need to go."
He barely lifts his head before waving his hand to push you away, like you're an annoying fly, mumbling in a slurred voice. "Go away... I have a wife."
You freeze for a moment before a small laugh escapes you, while some of the employees around you laugh too. "Looks like our boss is very loyal even while unconscious!" one of them says, causing the others to burst out laughing.
You try again, patting his shoulder more firmly. "Silas, enough, let’s go."
But he grows even more stubborn, wrapping his arms around the table as if protecting treasure. "I told you no! I can’t betray... betrayal..." He furrows his brow, trying to remember the right word, before whispering, "My wife won’t forgive me..."
You exhale impatiently. "Silas, I’m your wife, get up!"
He lifts his head, his eyes swaying as he stares at you for a moment, as if his mind is trying to process who you are. Then, suddenly, a wide smile lights up his face. He slowly tries to stand, but he wobbles and nearly falls, and you catch him. He reaches out to hug you tightly, his weight pressing down on you.
"wifey!"
You try to push him off a bit to relieve the weight, but his grip is strong. He breathes deeply against your neck, while you mutter irritably. "You smell awful! How many times have I warned you about overdrinking? You’re in big trouble."
But he just buries his head in your neck, inhales your scent, and lazily murmurs. "Mmm… you smell nice… darling."
