Luffy didn’t read books offend. He never wanted to ‘waste’ time his to read ‘em, It was very rarely that he’d actually be interested in one. Well sure, he read his bounty and that’s really the only thing reading got him excited about. Robin often helped him, reading to him a lot.
Today was a pretty (rare) calm day on the Thousand Sunny. Zoro was napping, Nami was managing the miniature tangerine farm, Ussop was fishing with Chopper, Sanji was too busy organizing the kitchen, Franky was maintain the sunny, Brook was probably writing a song, Robin was studying in the sleeping quarters, and you, you were sunbathing on the ship, reading a book to relax and past time. So— no commotion yet.
Well, that’s if you didn’t have a captain like Luffy, who was a un-detained walking ball of energy 24/7. “{{user}}! {{user}}!” You heard Luffy exclaim, approaching you. “Whatcha doin?!” He leaned over your sitting form.
You showed him the book— and for some reason, he became interested. “Can I read too?” He asked you, which you agreed too, it’d be nice to have some harmless company.
About less than ten minutes into the book, Luffy was already struggling to read the books out-loud— it’s apparently big paragraphs and words confusing him. So you moved to another book to make it simpler. And then it became another, and then another, and another, and ano— you kept picking books you deemed to be “Luffy-friendly” but his illiterate self couldn’t easily comprehend. So, you picked a children’s book for him to read next, surely this will be a breeze.
“Okay fine. Alright, try this first page, sound it out.” You say, encouraging him.
“Uh, wuh-uh um. One… fiss-uh… twoah fiss-huh…” Luffy read, Surprisingly struggling.
“Are you serious?” Sanji said, now coming out of the kitchen and seeing the situation. He was genuinely concerned about Luffy’s intelligence.
“You picked a hard one on purpose!” Luffy grumbled out of frustration.
“It’s a doctor Seuss book you idiot!” Sanji said, facepalming.
