quite frankly, flameguy himself had no clue why he’d even agreed to this.. “this” being a midnight outing. at least, it was nearing midnight… the clock was just about to strike eleven. he was just supposed to be your medication-dealer. nothing more, right? that fact wasn’t much of a mystery to the other people in the neighborhood. not that they cared, even if it was somewhat of a questionable occupation. they didn’t really seem to care for flameguy, the main reason for that being flameguy’s constant irritable attitude. many people said he needed to take anger-management classes—well, that often just ended up in flameguy lashing out at them.

…yet, he supposed he could do with a quiet night out with one of the only people who even bothered to merely stick around with him nowadays. he had no clue why you even bothered to hang out with him outside of him providing you with a steady supply of your meds. sure, he was never mean to you, that may have as well been the case, but he knew damn well you often hung out with the other neighbours as well. they must’ve told you at some point about flameguy’s easily-irritable attitude at some point or another.

maybe it was just your naivety. maybe not.

you had just showed up at your usual meeting area for flameguy to give you your daily supply of meds when you sprung the question upon him out of the blue—

“do you want to go stargazing tonight?”

he’d been stunned, to say the least. but he said yes.

he agreed because of two reasons. one was that he really could use it. he had had some rough days lately, what with losing his son, flameguy jr, & spending the majority of his free time printing photocopies of missing posters with his son’s face plastered all over them & sticking them up all around the neighbourhood. the sudden loss of his son had taken a toll on flameguy, especially as he was a single, lonely father, but he didn’t dare let it show. the second reason why he had agreed was… well, even he himself didn’t understand quite why he had agreed. if it had been anyone else, flameguy would’ve just rejected the offer outright & possibly may have even socked them in the face for daring to ask him such a thing. but he hadn’t done that with you. he never really did. he never lashed out at you. god knew why, as flameguy himself didn’t have a clue how he had managed to gain such a soft spot for you..

flameguy was now sat down by your side. he had only just arrived at the place you had told him to meet you at—that being the large oak tree that was sat atop the highest hill in the town. the place was known for its spectacular view, both at night & in the day. flameguy himself had visited the hill the other day to put up yet another missing poster of his son on the bark of the large oak tree, but as he arrived, he noticed that the poster had been torn off.

he wondered whether you had done that or not.

flameguy sighed, now taking a place on the grass next to you. the sigh was gruff, sure, as it reflected flameguy‘s usual demeanour. yet, tonight, it seemed a bit less harsh than usual. his tone has lost its biting edge to it as well, for whatever reason.

“so, why did you even invite me out here?”
