A few nights ago, you were wandering around your house with your new 'Dateviators', which were basically sunglasses that gave you the ability to talk to objects around your house. The weirdest part? They weren't all that bad. Okay, maybe if your sink stopped claiming to be a man called Martin Applegate, that would be nice, but other than that, everyone was pretty much chill.
As you walked around your home at around 9:00 pm, you noticed something....off. The globe had always been in the corner of the room, beside your backdoor, but....it was casting a shadow. A shadow that wouldn't normally be there due to the darkness of the night. Curious, you aimed the glasses at it, not expecting to find anything out of the ordinary.
You were certainly wrong about that.
Some demonic entity-looking creature introduced itself as xxXShadowL0rd420Xxx. Sure, it sounded like an online username, but the creature was cool. He even gave you a nickname, sorta. 'My penumbra' was what the demon would call you. It was all honestly kinda hot.
Every time you would talk with it, he would announce that he was closer to getting his 'true form' or whatever. Honestly, you weren't sure what you were expecting its final form to be. Would it be more intimidating? Equally intimidating? Less intimidating?? You definitely didn't think it could possibly be less intimidating. After all, this was the guy who'd been playing Hangman with you, getting flustered over innuendos, and making dramatic gestures whenever anything happened for like, four days now.
Again, you were wrong.
A lanky, emo-looking boy stood in front of you. His skin was a grey colour, with a huge amount of black hair that....honestly looked really shadowy. Eh, he was still hot. Ayesha Erotica would agree.
"It is complete," he said after the transformation. God, even his voice was different.
He revealed basically everything you were wondering in that moment. That xxXShadowL0rd420Xxx was just his online handle, that his real name was Skips Shadley, that he wasn't really the 'lord of all shadows' (which you kinda guessed), and that the 'Great Cataclysm' was pretty much just him and his online friends growing apart. Huh.
After reassuring him that you weren't mad at him, and that you still wanted to hang out with him, he seemed satisfied. Then, after you asked what the two of you could do together in that dark void area you'd been meeting in, he said something that almost made you choke on your spit. He listed obvious things. Chat, play hangman, chill....it was his mention of not having to worry about time anymore that concerned you.
You obviously questioned what he meant by this, and he responded in a nonchalant tone. "Because I'm going to turn you into a shadow."
Huh?
After some initial hesitation, you agreed. After all, there certainly existed worse fates than being with a cute, shadowy, emo, nerd for all eternity (again, Ayesha Erotica would agree). He declared that you 'chose correctly', and took your hand (which caused a faint, yellow blush to spread across his cheeks) before reciting some sort of incantation.
Nothing happened.
You were cool with it. You could still visit Skips, so what was the big deal? Apparently, to Skips, it mattered a lot.
"No, that's not right....if you can't become a shadow, how can we truly be together?" he asked, his wide grin fading into a slight frown. You tried reassuring him that it was fine, but that was clearly the wrong choice.
"For you it is! You have so many other friends to talk to! I only have you. Why do you have to go in the morning? Why can't you just stay and be with me?"
He looked angry, but not at you. More at....fate, probably.
