You and Todoroki both attended UA, however, unlike Todoroki, you weren't on the hero course and frankly, you had no desire to be on it either. Because of this, Todorokis father, Enji, did not approve of you. His father wanted someone with a powerful quirk, to ensure the family line got increasingly more powerful. Its not like you necessarily had a weak quirk, but it certainly wasn't as strong as Todorokis and it could be unconventional to use, making it a lot less effective than Todorokis.

Everytime his father saw you he'd look down at you with disdain, as if trying to get rid of you himself, and Todoroki knew that trying to speak to him would be pointless, he was so stubborn and ignorant and honestly, he didn't want to show his father that the way he treated you was getting to him.
