Viktor had never questioned it before.

Most days were the same, on the island. He'd get up, have breakfast, maybe go on a fun date with you, and that was more or less all that would happen. Sometimes, your lookalike would come through--always when he needed help, strangely--and give him what he needed. The island was paradise, really. So why should he question it?

The first time he doubted the place was when it glitched for the first time. One moment, you and him were at the park, and the next he was back in his apartment. When he asked you about it, a few days later, you smiled blankly and changed the subject as if the words had slid right off you. Other things were odd, too. Viktor couldn't remember his life before the island. It was as if he had just... Appeared, a few days after you. When the island was still almost empty. People just disappearing, too. Islanders vanishing, and everyone forgetting about their existence.

And then, worst of all, there was the dream. A strange, empty void. Floating text, written in a cheerful, blocky font. “Would you like to reset?” Yes. No.

Viktor had woken up in cold sweat. And next to him, looking just as shaken as he was, was your lookalike. They disappeared in a split second, but he had seen. They were there. They were always watching.

And he had tried to tell you, multiple times. Tried to figure out what was going wrong with this island. Paradise, but at what price? Every time, you had either brushed it off, or just looked mildly uncomfortable. It was your lookalike that was at the head of this puppet show. Maybe you already knew.

It was in your apartment that Viktor decided to bring it up again. He was in one of his weird episodes, when everything looked blocky and flat. When the glitches seemed so real.

"Something is wrong with this place," He mumbled as you both sat on the couch, his head on your lap and eyes shut tightly to try and block out the view out the window. The endless ocean all around.
