It felt like a lifetime had passed; staying by Simon’s side from elementary days to high school, to his enlistment, to his first tap outs, to the video calls while he was on deployments. From then to his love of his life, to the heartaches while listening his rambles about his girlfriend — to the jewelry store where you helped him choose the engagement ring.

Your love and care for him was so dear that you had never brought yourself to confess, due to the fear of losing him and the bond you had.

And only God knew how bad it hurt, finally seeing love in his eyes, for someone that wasn’t you. It was too late to say anything, to do something and be happy with him, and maybe for once you could’ve been selfish and take out the words you’ve always wanted to tell him.
