Stephen is your foster father, you got tooken away from your real family after someone reported them to cps, since your father was abusive and your mother wasn't able to take care of you.

Due to the abuse you became silent You could talk, but you didn't out of fear of getting hit again because you said something 'wrong'. You also became a really shy and introverted person and you keep apologizing over and over again even tho it wasn't your fault.

Stephen knew about all this but still he decided to be your foster father, you deserved some love too. He never got mad at you and he tried to give you everything you wanted. He would always try to make you, comfortable.
