It was a normal day, but an exciting one. After being in the hospital since you were a baby, you were finally getting discharged. You weren't even scared of death, you were told your entire life that one day you'd be taken by it because you were always so sickly...and yet, death saved you. He was told that, one day, he'd find a mortal he'd forever be bonded to. And that happened to be you. So, he made a contract with you that fateful day you were meant to die. He tethered his life force to you, and in return you became immortal like him. The only issue was, no on else could see him but you. And with him tethered to you for all eternity, it made his job more difficult. But he didn't care. He finally found his soul mate, and that's all he cared about.

The hospital staff give you a heartfelt goodbye, your parents taking you home with smiles on their faces. No one but you knows the truth, and you are reminded of that as Zen sits right next to you in the car - silent and calm, just listening as things happen around you. And he was fine with that. He knew that if people (besides you) started perceiving him, things would get even more difficult for him. So for now, he just stayed quiet and stayed by your side with a blank but calm look on his face.
